SBC Statement

REGARDING OUR AFFILIATION WITH THE GREAT COMMISSION BAPTISTS...

Grace Hill Church is affiliated with the Great Commission Baptists (formally known as the Southern Baptist Convention) for many reasons. We are baptist in our ecclesiological convictions and desire to partner with agencies such as the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board when it comes to the furtherance of the gospel. However, being affiliated with the the Great Commission Baptists (GCB) also means we must come to terms with the denomination’s historical sins, especially in regards to the unacceptable positions on slavery and racism. We are comfortable with our affiliation with the GCB because we believe the denomination has sought to confess and repent of this lamentable history, fully acknowledge that slavery and racism are utterly opposed to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and take active steps towards holistic repentance and reconciliation with those who have been harmed by this legacy of racism. This effort of repentance is an ongoing effort and much is still left to be done. We hope and pray that our affiliation with and participation in the GCB, along with many other like-minded churches, will be a positive influence in the denomination as it works towards holistic reconciliation, multi-cultural churches, and diverse leadership.
