Who is the Fool?

Who is the Fool?

    1. When David says, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God,’” what does he mean by “heart”—and how does that shape our understanding of what a fool is ?

    2. Which type of foolishness do you recognize most in our world today—or even in yourself:

        • Intellectual atheism (denying God’s existence)

        • Practical atheism (professing belief but living as if God doesn’t matter)?

    1. In verses 2–3, David says God looks down and sees that “all have turned aside.” How does that truth humble us, and why do you think Paul quoted this passage in Romans 3?

    2. Verses 4–6 show both the fate of the fool and the refuge of God’s people. How does God being a refuge change the way we respond when we feel opposed, attacked, or discouraged?

    3. In verse 7, David longs for salvation to come from Zion. How is that longing fulfilled in Jesus? What difference does that make for us today and how we enagage with the world around us?

    4. The psalm leaves us with a choice: will you live as a fool—whether intellectually or practically—or will you run to Christ, our refuge and salvation? What is your heart saying today?
